So you think you are safe

The truth of the matter is that every year roughly half of us will have our information stolen by an evil doer. Most times it will be from a website that somebody broke into.  How does this happen and can it happen to you?

Do you run a blog or small website? If so, you might be a target. But you think there is nothing of any value to a criminal on your site. That is where you are wrong. You have things that they want.

How do you know if you are a target? You won’t always know for sure because maybe somebody just doesn’t like you or you have a competitor or some kid picks you at random. However, these are not normally the case. Most wrong doers will look for specific weaknesses in websites to see if they want to be bothered with hacking it. Like a burglar cruising the streets looking for things like

  • is there a dog?
  • security cameras?
  • bars on the windows?
  • certain brand of locks?

The same way with the internet. If you are small fish, then you probably won’t have somebody targeting you. They are looking for low hanging fruit. The front door wide open, so to say.

So how do you know if you are leaving your front door wide open for them? You need a person like me who will take a quick “drive by” of your site and see if you are leaving gaping holes in your security. This is WAY before penetration testing. Only kiddy hackers will go full force with penetration tools before seeing if the site is going to be hard or easy. Why go for a hard site when a million easy ones exist?

I will help you discourage hackers.
